During August, up to 40 of our new Year 8 pupils attended our Super Summer Scheme in St Patrick’s College. The main aim of this fun-filled week was to
help make a successful transition from primary to post-primary, making the move slightly less daunting.
The pupils were encouraged to take part in a variety of activities to enhance their confidence, independence and self-esteem right before they started their first term in the College.
Activities carried out throughout the week ranged from ice-breaker activities and Robotics and Coding challenges. Together, as a group we addressed the worries and concerns identified, helping to relieve any anxieties or stress for the students.
It was a fantastic opportunity for the incoming Year 8 pupils to build trust and form positive relationships with other students. Alongside this, pupils had the chance to get to know members of staff, who kindly offered to assist during the summer scheme.
To conclude our week, parents attended a prayer service which the children organised, read and sang throughout the service. This provided a great opportunity to pray together, for a successful start to a new school and for the year ahead. St. Patrick’s College wishes to thank Mrs. Una McCorley, Area Learning Mentor, for helping to organise the Summer Scheme
